A Cost Cap refers to the entire process of completing an estimate for the repair, versus replacement of a Powertrain assembly (engine/transmission).
- A Cost Cap repair estimate must include all of the parts necessary to repair an engine or transmission.
- Technician comments MUST support all of the parts selected on the cost cap estimate.
- In the technician comments, indicate the specific defect for each of the listed parts.
- For each part, there must be a true defect listed: grooved, scored, broken, frozen/seized, etc. are acceptable; stating that a part is “contaminated” is not.
- Do not select the 6009 short block or 7000 in the Cost Cap Tool.
- The component can only be replaced if the parts to repair the assembly exceed the threshold or the parts are not available (for this, you must have parts screen support).
- Follow the instructions on the Cost Cap Tool after Ford has replied.
- Do not list damage to other non-connected components caused by the assembly failure.
- Require access to a copy of the detailed parts list with technician comment to support the failure of each part listed.
Before the repair estimate can be submitted, you must supply a copy of the Cost Cap Tool listing of all the parts to repair the Powertrain assembly. Again, you must include technician comments detailing the defects of all the components listed on the Cost Cap Tool. Including complete technician comments is mandatory and vital, as we have had a few high-dollar claims reject or charge back because technician comments did not support all of the parts listed on the Cost Cap Tool.
